PF Withdrawal Rules: For Home Loan, Medical, Retirement

With the passage of time, EPFO is emphasizing to do each and every work by the mode of digital way. Now any PF Member who wants to draw some money from his provident fund in advance during service, need not go to the employer, in other words, you can withdraw the same without the help of their employer.

In this direction, EPFO gives you better fund options for the completion of your budget instead of borrowing the money on very high-interest rates. You can withdraw your PF balance partially and not 100%. You can check all PF Withdrawal Rules in this article.

Here I clarify that you can withdraw your partial PF amount in advance via ONLINE OR OFFLINE mode as per your convenience.

PF Withdrawal Rules

1. PF withdrawal Rules for Construction/Renovation/Loan Repayment/Land Purchase

You can withdraw your partial PF amount in advance for the construction of a house/Alternation in an existing house/Repayment of a housing loan.

One major advantage is that no declaration/document is required for this partial PF advance amount.

Conditions Required
  1. EPF Member should have completed at least  5 years of Service.
  2. In case of purchase of land, an amount up to  24 months of an individual’s basic wages and DA can be withdrawn. The house bought should be under the name of PF Member/Spouse/Family Members.
  3. In the case of a home, an amount up to  36 months of an individual’s basic wages and DA can be withdrawn.
  4. In the case of Renovation, an amount up to  12 months of an individual’s basic wages and DA can be withdrawn.
  5. No document is required for uploading at the site (while applying online – EPFO official link ).

EPFO Instruction: As per instructions of EPFO, if the advance is for purchase of site/house/flat or construction through Agency or repayment of Housing Loan then you have to indicate the name in whose favor the payment has to be made. 

2. PF Withdrawal Rules for Illness/Medical Purpose

In case of illness of  Member/Family, partial PF in advance can be withdrawn for the cure of illness/medical purposes. No document is required, for uploading at the site.

An employee can withdraw up to 6 months of his basic salary and DA or his/her entire contribution whichever is lower. There is no locking period or minimum service limit prescribed by the Govt of India for such type of withdrawal.

3. PF Withdrawal Rules For Marriage

An EPFO member can withdraw partial PF in advance in case of Marriage of self/son/daughter/brother/sister up to 50% of the amount from his/her PF account. No document is required.

The Person should have completed at least 7 years of service. The maximum limit for withdrawing PF in advance for marriage is 3 times in his service life.

3. PF Withdrawal Rules For Higher Education

An EPFO member can withdraw for Post Matriculation education of his/her children only. An EPFO member can withdraw his 50% share with interest subject to the completion of 7 years of service.

A member can claim PF advance for education only 3 times in his service life. No document is required for uploading at the site(While applying for Education advance.)

4. PF Withdrawal Rules for Retirement

A member can withdraw his partial PF in advance for Retirement after attaining the age of 54 or only one years before retirement whichever is later.

The total amount that can be withdrawn is 90% of the total PF balance. You don’t need to submit or upload any declaration while applying for PF advance for Retirement.

5. PF Withdrawal Rules for Natural Calamities

In case of natural calamities, an EPF member can withdraw 5000/- or 50% whichever is lower of his contribution from the EPF account.

6. PF Withdrawal Rules for Factory/Company close/lockout

In case of firm/company has been locked up or close down for more than 15 days and its employees be considered as unemployed without any compensation or in case the employer did not pay salary/wages for 2 months consequently, a member can withdraw partial PF amount in advance from EPF. The amount should not be more than Member’s total contribution including interest.

7. PF Withdrawal Rules For Purchase of equipment by Physically handicapped

An EPF member can withdraw the amount in advance for the purchase of equipment required by him/her.

The amount in advance should not exceed the member’s basic wages and DA for six months or his own share of contributions with interest their own or the cost of the equipment whichever is lower.

8. EPF Withdrawal Rules for Varistha Pension Bima Yojana

Investment in Varistha Pension Bima Yojana: 90% of the total PF balance can be transferred to LIC, No document is required.

How many times we can withdraw EPF Advance?

The limit for withdrawing PF in advance purely depends upon the purposes for which you are withdrawing the partial PF in advance.

How to Withdraw EPF Advance For Construction/Marriage/ Illness?

During working in the company, PF members can withdraw funds partially by using Form -31 online. The Funds can be drawn both ways – online or offline.  In case, if  UAN is activated on the PF member portal, it can be drawn online and if UAN is not activated on the EPFO portal, then it can be drawn offline by using Composite Forms.

What is EPF advance withdrawal processing time?
