EPFO has initiated a new online facility for its PF members for linking OR merging the past services into the existing UAN.

Since 2014, UAN has been allotted by EPFO to each and every PF Member in order to provide all facilities on a single platform for many online tasks.

What should do in case of allotment of two UANS

At the time of changing the Job, inform your new employer immediately about your UAN of your past company so that the deposits of your  PF contribution to be transferred by the employer in the same UAN.

If the PF member does not inform the existing employer about their past service’s UAN (Universal Account Number), a new Universal Account Number (UAN)  will be generated by the online system of EPFO automatically after 15 Days.

However, if you have been allotted two UANs,  there are following two ways to deactivate One UAN:-

OFFLINE METHOD:-

  • Inform your employer OR EPFO  immediately, as soon as the issue came into your knowledge.
  • Member can send an email at uanepf@epfindia.gov.in, mentioning details of two UANs.
  • On verification of the two UAN, EPFO will block the old UAN and keep active existing UAN.
  • PF members can also send a request for the transfer of their PF annuities into the current UAN through their existing employer. Form 13 is used for PF transfer claim offline and the employee can submit it to the employer, as and when he joins the job.

The above process takes can take a lot of time as the resolution rate of the issue is very low.  Hence we cannot say, it is a good method.

ONLINE METHOD

Merging of two EPF accounts into One is not difficult but employee UAN  should be activated on the PF Member Portal, fulfilling the below-mentioned terms and conditions for One Member One EPF Account (Transfer Request):-

  1. Complete KYC -PAN, Bank Account, and Aadhar Number must be verified, etc.
  2. UAN must be linked with the current EPF account.
  3. 3-4 gaps should exist after activation of UAN before merging the EPF accounts.

How to Activate UAN Number?

EPFO has assigned UAN to every member, which is generally communicated to employees by the employer. To activate UAN, the user must visit the unified portal of EPFO ​ and click on the “Activate UAN”. By entering the details like UAN, name, date of birth, and mobile number, an authorization pin is generated. The UAN is activated once this pin is entered and authenticated.

Step 1: Visit at EPFO Site.

Step 2: Select  “Services” and in the drop-down menu, Select  “For Employees”.

Step 3: On this page,  click on “Member UAN/Online Services”.  The page that now opens will take you to the UAN Member Portal.

Step 4: On this page, Log in to your account with the password and enter a captcha, then a new web page will be opened. If UAN is not active, first of all, you have to activate your UAN.

Step 5: On the above web page,  select the “Service” tab, click on the “One Member – One EPF Account” button.

Step 6: On clicking the link, a webpage will open for consolidating multiple EPF accounts. On this page, UAN and current member  Id must be entered.  After submission of required details, an OTP will be sent to the registered mobile for authentication.

Step 7: Merging of EPF Account

On entering the OTP,  the page will show the old PF account details for the merger. Once the old PF account is entered and the declaration is accepted and submitted, the request for the merger of that account to the existing PF  account will be sent to EPFO.

What happens if you have 2 UANs?

Having 2 or more different UANs for one employee is illegal and against the rules. If you change the Job, you must inform the same to the new employer immediately and apply for transfer of your PF accumulations.

Is Form 13 mandatory for UAN transfer?

On changing the job, Form 13 is to be submitted for EPF transfer to their new account.

How many days does it take to merge two accounts?

Generally, it takes 20 days to merge into two accounts from One EPF account to another.
